They’re started live-streaming a webcam from a peregrine falcon nest in Manchester (here’s the site; it points to two different cameras on the same location) and I’m addicted.

I’m not addicted because I’m a bird fanatic, but because the wind going over the microphones creates a white noise. Just slap on the headphones when you want to concentrate and away you go.

Any time you hear something interesting – squawking or squeaking – you can alt-tab back to the webcam.

That’s how I stumbled across a short but vigorous bout of falcon sex which, alarmingly, took place at the very end of the perch hanging out over several stories of empty space. The male had to keep flapping the whole time so the two of them didn’t plummet off the perch. Makes even the most extreme of pole-dancing look passe.
