I have a story and video in the Concord Monitor about how to fake your ballot selfie, so you can go to your blowhard brother-in-law and pretend that you supported his candidate even if you didn’t want to.

The column and video are here, and they’re highly entertaining. At least, I think so. (You saw this on Thursday if you subscribe to the newsletter.)

I played it for laughs but there’s a dark side to this question. The reason that many officials oppose allowing ballot selfies is that they can be used to coerce or bribe votes – which leads to this image, which was sent to me by one of my readers on Sunday. I don’t know if it’s a real threat – probably not, I’d say – but it’s the sort of thing that ballot selfies make possible:

threatening note: show a ballot selfie or else
