Recycling Christmas lights is not easy, separating out the plastic coasting and the bulbs from the metal – which is why most places just heave them into the landfill when they break, which they always do.

The Concord Monitor reports that four new Hampshire transfer stations actually do the work of recycling them, which is impressive.

When I first heard about this story I assumed that they just shipped them to the Chinese town that, as The Atlantic reported in 2011, has made an industry of doing this very specific task – but, no, they do the work on site. Well done!
