My Concord Monitor column today talks about a MOOC (free online class) on introductory engineering (sort of an “engineering for poets” approach) put together by a Dartmouth professor who used a cartoon owl to help students work through problems and understand concepts.

It’s partly a rumination about the use of non-words/non-math to teach technical concepts, partly a discussion of how MOOCs are transitioning now that they’re no longer the Cool New Thing, and partly an excuse to talk about a story I have coming up Sunday, profiling the wonderfully weird Center for Cartoon Studies, a masters-degree-issuing college of cartooning in White River Junction, Vt.

Here’s the column.
