Concord is one of those places that has pledged to switch to 100% renewable energy, and now it’s figuring out exactly how to do that in the three big energy areas: Electricity (which is straightforward, if not easy), transportation (which is relatively straightforward) and heating & cooling (which is the hardest of the triad).
I wrote about the draft report in the Monitor and concentrated on what is known as thermal energy. You can read it here.
Alas, there are no straightforward technical solutions as with electricity and transportation. Making thermal energy renewable is mostly a function of people improving their habits and their surroundings, not just swapping fuels. So while neat stuff like electric heat pumps are important, adding insulation is more important.
