The town of Derry has turned off a couple of electric-vehicle chargers near its downtown because they’ve gotten too expensive to run. This article in the Eagle-Tribune is short on details, but I assume the issue is demand charges – extra fees the utility imposes is usage goes over a certain amount at certain times. These can be quite expensive and have been a problem for charging stations, which can draw a lot of power.
The article quotes town officials as saying the stations haven’t gotten much use, mostly repeat visits from a couple dozen cars. The goal was to lure more people to spend time downtown.
Towns are happy to spend zillions on “free” parking spaces for cars that don’t get used very often, but that’s normal. Electric vehicles are new and therefore suspect.

This whole EV thing has not been thought through ., EV’s wouldn’t even exist as 2% of sales if not for all the subsidies. They don’t even have to pay gas taxes let alone parking fees.

in my opinion, EV world *does* need to be ‘jump-started’:) 🙂 The only players are the market(you and me), the industry, and the government. The government with your and my money is in the best position to *stop* doing current programs and *start* doing new programs.
Any governmental investment incentives, subsidies, tax benefits for the *gasoline* world must stop. Stop. this would not *cost* anyone. The oil industry would start to pull its own weight. No new money would need to be found or created in order to make the oil versus electric more equal.
Stop giving the oil industry benefits. Then wait and see if the EV world needs any benefit.
