Approval voting is the simplest form of alternative voting procedures – basically, it would let voters chose more than one candidate when more than one was running for a single office, as in the current GOP presidential primary. The choices wouldn’t be ranked or scored, as in other methods, but at least voters could express more than a single preference.
Two bills have been put forward to allow approval voting in New Hampshire, as I report today. Similar bills have fizzled in the past, but approval voting has the advantage of not requiring any change to ballots or voting machines. I wouldn’t count on it going anywhere, however.
