What do you do when you think that invasive insects are going to kill trees? You can try to save them, but if you’re facing problems like the emerald ash borer or red pine scale, that’s pretty hopeless – so instead you can cut them down while they’re still relatively healthy and worth something on the timber market.
When you’re talking about highly visible trees in city parks, however, that can be a problem, which is why Concord is getting the word out now that they’re going to be cutting down trees, probably a lot of trees, in years to come. I suspect some loud public hearings are in the offing.
