I never was a Dungeons and Dragons fanatic but I know plenty of people who play or used to play, and of course it has become a sort of totem of geek culture.

So it’s appropriate that it was one of the three playthings just added to the Toy Hall of Fame – along with Little People and the swing. Each annual triad of inductees tends to have two commercially branded items and one  very basic plaything such as – my favorite – the stick. The 12 finalists this year included bubble wrap, Care Bears, Clue, the coloring book, Nerf ball, pinball, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Transformers and Uno. All excellent candidates, although bubble wrap is a little … odd.

Here’s the NPR story.
