New Hampshire has lot fretted about a shortage of births producing a “silver tsunami” of old folks that will cripple the economy, shutter our colleges and produce an over-supply of Denny’s restaurants. Most of us know that is true throughout New England and other parts the U.S. where non-Hispanic whites are the majority (unless there are lots of Mormons), but it’s becoming true in many countries.
“A new concern is taking hold across the developed world: rapidly aging populations that scare policymakers” is how Axios puts it. Europe and East Asia are being particularly hard hit.
I’ve written about how this is a horrible thing but also our only hope.
