Almost 10 years after it was first proposed, wind turbines are being built in the town of Antrim. (Story is here) It will be 28.8 megawatts with nine turbines, making it the fourth wind farm of any size in the state.
People and organizations fighting the plan because of concerns about appearance and damage to the local environment – all of whom are, of course, “supporters of clean energy” as long as it’s somewhere else – took their opposition to the N.H. Supreme Court. Need another reason to complain? Trucks hauling wind turbine components go really slow which means you might occasionally be stuck in traffic.
When I was working on one of the windfarms in the Altamont Pass in California, we had a big sign outside that kept track of the amount of oil and gas that was not burned because of our windmills. That was a nasty place to live because it was too windy, Not the same at all as Antrim, but still.
When I built my big machine in Scarborough, Maine, I polled all the neighbors before starting the process before the planning board. If it fell, would it land on someone else’s property? If not, no problem.
