The national Science Foundation’s online magazine gives a tip of the hat to a UNH-led project putting many sensors on the Memorial Bridge between Portsmouth, NH, and Kittery, Maine.
Ultimately, a suite of 40 sensors will create a self-diagnosing, self-reporting smart bridge that engages innovators in sensor and renewable technology by creating an incubator platform on a working bridge, from which researchers can field test and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of emerging technologies. … The bridge’s new sensors will even be powered by tidal energy.
Called the Living Bridge, the project is funded by the NSF.
(Note: This isn’t the Sarah Long Bridge, which was recently closed by technical problems. It’s the other lift one over the PIscatagua River, the one that carries Route 1.)
